Faces in webcam captures |
|
|
Where someone thinks they see a deceased persons face in an image.
Our minds are set up to recognise face shapes, right from birth we have had to recognise the important features of people we know, or don't know.
For webcam watching, those intricate modelling methods are brought into play more often than we might like...but we will all suffer from it.
How to detect what is a mind created face and what is a real face is sometimes most of the reason that someone will post a webcam capture, to gain others opinions.
Here's one example of what could be a mind face, posted by our good friend Gloria from one of our cams.

At first, the larger circled image is quite compelling and indeed it would have scared me to see it! But on inspection, we see how such a face could be made by a few dots.
In short, there's nothing wrong with posting such a capture, who knows what anything is until other people have a look at it
What matters is that a capture is made, deliberated on and then our own understanding of what is normal for that location is expanded. |
